WEST IS A NOBEL WINE
West Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2005 was paired with the main course at the Nobel Banquet in Stockholm, Sweden 2010, as the first American wine to be served in the history of this distinguished event.  Read more.

West Wines is a California winery owned by the Akerlind Bonde family, a Swedish-American family with a passion for growing grapes and making fine wine.

Winemaking for our Cabernet Sauvignon wines combines the best of traditional Bordeaux winemaking and New World modern techniques.  Our Chardonnay and our Viognier are crafted in the same traditional way to create flavorful, fruity and fresh wines. Our lastest white wine release is Sauvignon Blanc made in a dry Bordeaux style. Another exciting wine is West Crest Cuvée, a blend of our Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc. All grapes for our wines are hand harvested and meticulously sorted to ensure the highest quality. At West Wines we practice Sustainable Grapegrowing. Read more about our vineyards here.

Compass Club  Become a member and you will get shipments of new releases and library wines twice a year. Members also enjoy discounts on all wine and can book vineyard tours, private tastings and get invitations to events. We have some exciting events coming up this summer and fall. You can sign up here.

Why are our wines called West Wines?  Our vineyards are located on the western slope of Dry Creek Valley, in the western part of Sonoma County, which is one of the westernmost wine producing areas in California; therefore among the most western vineyards in the western hemisphere, hence the name West for our wines.

January 12, 2011
Such an honor to have our Cabernet Sauvignon served at the Nobel Banquet in Stockholm, December 10. A flurry of activities since then with tastings, increased sales, interviews in print and ether media.
November 2010
We held a vertical tasting of our Cabernet Sauvignon from 2000 and forward. An array of new mature aromas have developed over the years.
The youngest we tasted was the 2008 which was bottled this year. If you are interested in a special tasting contact us.

October 2010
Despite a devastating heat spell in August after a cool spring and summer, we got just the right maturity in our Viognier grapes. The Sauvignon Blanc grapes did really well. And as for the Cabernet Sauvignon, we are really excited about the quality this year. A smaller harvest, but a very promising wine.

July 2010
Just bottled West Crest Cuvée 2008 our first blend. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 5% Malbec and 5% Cabernet Franc. We will release it next year.

Bottling our 2009 Viognier. We are very happy with the fruity aroma. The vineyards are slowly turning green, a bit late, this year.

Oct 13, 2009
All our grapes are harvested. The Viognier on September 23, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc right after and the Cabernet Sauvignon October 8. Today we have the first big rain storm this fall.

July 20, 2009
Releasing the Viognier 2008 to the online shop.

June 10,2009
The Viognier was released to some restaurants two weeks ago and we are getting wonderful feedback on the flavor, the color, the nose. We are so happy it was well received.

April 1, 2009
Yesterday we bottled the Viognier and we are so pleased with the wine. Classic viognier flavors such as guava, mango and a hint of pineapple. We will release it in late May.

September 9, 2008
Our first Viognier grapes are picked, crushed and in barrels. We are excited about the floral aromas with hints of pineapple. The Chardonnay was just harvested so we are finished with all the creekside fields and we are closely watching the Cabernet Sauvignon up on West Dry Creek, the Hillside farm. The weather has been very hot in August making for an early harvest but has cooled down now with the morning fog we love.

March 14, 2008
We bottled 250 cases of Chardonnay, harvested in September last year. It has a very fresh and fruity style with nice acidity.

November 1, 2007
All grapes are harvested. The Chardonnay already shows a lot of fruit. Barreltasting our 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon is a pleasure and we are starting to get a sense of the earthy, dark berries in the flavors. Another 8 months before bottling.

July 5, 2007
Blazing hot in Dry Creek Valley. Today we bottled the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon and we are now letting it rest in bottles for a year before its release.
We did barrel tasting of the 2006 Cabernet and we are very excited about it. It will be a stellar vintage.

April 19, 2007
Bottling of our Chardonnay today went very well. We are extremely pleased with the crisp and elegant style, apple and pear aroma and the long nice bouquet. It will be available early this summer.

March 9, 2007
We’re making the final decisions with our winemaker, on the Chardonnay prior to bottling in April. We are excited to be issuing our first release of Chardonnay soon.
